African and European leaders wrapped up the African Union – European Union Summit earlier today, commenting on migration to Europe and the human rights abuses taking place in Libya.

Lavinia Liardo, Senior Policy Officer at Terre des Hommes said:
“The EU’s scramble to stop people crossing the Mediterranean is short-sighted, costing hundreds of millions of Euros and is putting people’s lives at risk.

“Opening safe and legal pathways to Europe can stop migrants and refugees suffering heinous abuse in Libya, and truly honour the EU commitments to human rights and sustainable development.”
