Founded in 1960, Terre des Hommes strives to empower children to shape the future they want for themselves, their peers and the world around them. We work to create a world which guarantees the rights of all children are respected in their entirety.

The Terre des Hommes International Federation directly helped over six million people in 2017, the vast majority of which were children. We took action in 67 countries, managing and supporting over 800 projects worldwide. From strengthening child protection systems and providing humanitarian aid for children in crisis, to providing innovative healthcare solutions and empowering young people to influence the decisions affecting them, Terre des Hommes seeks to ensure every child enjoys a happy, fulfilling childhood.

The Terre des Hommes movement seeks to carry out it’s mission for children through our network of independent national organisations, with headquarters in Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and two organisations in Switzerland – Terre des Hommes Switzerland and Terre des Hommes Lausanne.

Regrettably, Terre des Hommes Lausanne has recently been forced to make 45 redundancies, with 12 voluntary departures, after discovering a deficit in its annual forecast CHF 7.5 million higher than originally foreseen. This was due to the implementation of an inadequate new budget management system, and is absolutely not due to embezzlement or the misappropriation of funds.

As a valued member of the Terre des Hommes family, staff across the Federation stand in solidarity with the Lausanne office at this difficult time. Our thoughts are with all staff affected.

It must also be noted that each Terre des Hommes member organisation maintains financial and organisational independence from other organisations based in different countries or offices in Switzerland. This includes implementation of the defective budget management system, which was only used by Terre des Hommes Lausanne.

As a result, the financial deficit suffered by Terre des Hommes Lausanne will not affect the finances or operations of other members of the Terre des Hommes International Federation.

The Terre des Hommes International Federation and Terre des Hommes Lausanne will continue to strive to create a world where all children can enjoy their rights in their entirety. A better world for children is possible, and as a Federation we pledge to make it happen.
