Within the context of the World Day against Child Labour on June 12, the children”€™s aid organisation Terre des Hommes Netherlands appeals to the Dutch Government to hasten efforts in the fight against child slavery at home and abroad. Although the urgency and dimension of this issue are internationally recognised, the Rutte administration does not want to ratify the treaty of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) against these problems. Not only are the children in emerging countries put at unnecessary risk on a daily basis, but also children within the Netherlands are not adequately protected against exploitation, as unfortunately demonstrated by the recently published story of a young household slave from India in The Hague.
