Rome, 10 October 2013 –In Italy, sexual crimes against children have tripled in one year. Almost 80% of victims is female. Worldwide, 16 millions of girl children and young women give birth when they are too young. 125 millions of girl children and young women have suffered a form of genital mutilation. 7,5 millions of girl children and young women are exploited and forced to work in strangers’ households in intolerable conditions. Alarming data are released in Rome today.

Indifesa: a campaign to fight violence on girls

Terre des Hommes Italy denounces violence on girl children in its dossier “indifesa” released at a conference in Rome on 10th October 2013. “Violence on women is often left unsaid even by the protagonists themselves, and to bring to light violence on girl children and young women is even harder”, stated Donatella Vergari, Secretary General of Terre des Hommes Italy, child victims have even less means to defend themselves and may be subjected to a greater psychological control by their offenders.

Indifesa: a global map of violation of girls’ rights

With “indifesa”, Terre des Hommes Italy draws a global map of the violations of girls’ rights. Terre des Hommes Italy is acting concretely to protect them from violence and stop them being exploited. Say stop to violence and exploitation of girl children and young women in the world. This is the objective of the “indifesa” campaign by Terre des Hommes Italy.
